Our quick and easy road trip ready inspection list:
Here are some of the most critical items you need to inspect before heading out on your road trip. This will assist in a smooth, stress-free trip.
Apply your brakes. Do you hear any strange noises? Does tapping the pedal feel different? Does it take a long distance to come to a complete stop?
If you have experienced any of these issues, you need to have your brakes looked at as soon as possible to avoid any concerns. Our licensed technicians can assist you with minor concerns like topping up your brake fluid or more complicated services like replacing brake pads or rotors when they are worn out or near their end of usefulness.
Inspect your car’s tires (including the spare tire) to ensure that they are inflated to the correct pressure levels and that there is no signs of damage to any areas. If you’re packing a heavy load or expecting a change of weather, keep that in mind when choosing tire pressure. While you’re checking the spare tire, be sure to check if you have all the tools you need to change a tire (including an emergency triangle, tire wrench, a car jack and a flashlight).
The correct tire pressures that should be used for your tires are not on the tire itself, but located on a sticker usually placed either in the drivers side door area, or the gas cap door.
Having a battery fail on you during a road trip can be annoying and also unsafe. Make sure to check your battery to ensure that it is in good working order and that the connectors are free of any corrosion and damage. If you’ve got any battery troubles or concerns, we can assist you with advice on the best replacement.
Test your front and rear wipers, lights and other electronics in your car. Check that all the windows do move freely and completely. Use and test your horn to hear if it is audible and functioning correctly. If your wipers or headlight bulbs need replacement, you can call us at SWC Automotive to have those properly taken care of before your road trip.
Visually inspect the systems under your hood that use hoses, belts, and filters to look for any damage like cracking of components or leaking fluids. Check that all fluids are topped up and level, including engine coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and windshield washer / wiper fluid. If you’re unsure of any of these parts or have noticed any damage or concerns, you can discuss it with one of our service specialists when you bring your car to SWC Automotive.
After this easy and basic inspection, all that’s left is to pack your bags, grab some yummy snacks and head off on down the road on your adventure.

Excellent Service. All work done on my car was done on time and of a very high standard . I have dealt with SWC for a few years now and have never been disappointed with the work they do . From the time you first go ( no matter what the problem ) in to the time you pick up your vehicle the service is First and you are made to feel very confident with the work being done. The Service Manager Sandra is very knowledgeable and the guys in the shop do excellent work. Matthew work on my car this time. The whole experience is very good. For those who require a Loner vehicle they also arrange that so you are never without a vehicle , which is very important for a lot of people. I would and have recommended SWC to many people.

Made arrangements for my daughter to get an alignment since she works out of town and not very comfortable with any other automotive place to get worked on her car. By the time she bought her car in for an alignment, they give her a courtesy car and we’re so professional. She picked her up a few hours later and could not believe there was a thank you note in her car and said she has never been to an automotive repair shop so professional and so kind she can’t wait to bring her car back there again for such a great experience .As a father I’ve never been so comforted by having a place take care of my daughter and car. We were born and raised in Birlington. I recommend anyone to bring their cars there for a full professional work done.

Very helpful initial over the phone assessment, description of the diagnostic process and setting aside a courtesy vehicle (Sandra). Detailed vehicle condition report: documenting with pictures the condition of the vehicle on arrival, multi point visual inspection with results presented, clear description of diagnostic related work done, pictures documenting diagnostic tools readouts and providing recommendations for the repair work to be done. Highly thorough and procedure driven repair work, willing to go the extra mile and doing multiple road tests to ensure the repair was successful (John). Very knowledgeable, discussing the report results in detail and flexible in providing path forward options (Michael) The only possible improvement, would be to take the courtesy vehicles to a car spa :) Thank you for the great finishing touch, with the note and candy found on the dash when I picked up the car.

Not from burlington, was looking for a place to do a PPI on a vehicle I was looking at buying. Called and got a good feeling from chatting with Steven, so I had the car brought to SWC for inspection. From beginning to end, was a fantastic experience, Mike handled communication with me very well and explained the inspection that Fred had done on the car, and pointed out several things that I'd have never caught myself. Hard to find shops filled with good people like this one seems to be- great spot to get your car looked after.
